Hello and welcome! My husband and I started rescuing 4-legged babies last summer. It is something I have wanted to do my whole life. We had no intention of starting just yet, but when I walked into the Hendricks Co. Animal Shelter and saw this listless St. Bernard who later became known as Merlin, I could not walk away from him. He had been found wondering the country roads here in Hendricks Co. No one had claimed him and he had approximately 2 days before his stint on death-row would end and he would become yet another statistic. I phoned my husband and asked him to look at him on his way home from work. The rest is history. To make a long story short, we adopted him. He had never had human affection, was partially deaf, never walked up a flight of stairs, on carpet or tile, had never seen a TV or heard a radio. By all indications he appeared to have been a puppy mill stud and was probably turned loose due to his lack of hearing.

Within two months he was a brand new, affectionate, loving big lug. He was adopted out to a wonderful couple. That was in May of 2007 and the beginning of Canines Rule. We are not currently set up to house more than three dogs at a time, but at least that is three that will find loving homes. We currently have three dogs of our own and two cats. We are located in Danville Indiana. If you are searching for a dog to make a lifetime companion and best friend, please check out our current babies. If we do not have one you think you might be interested in, please email us. I have numerous friends and contacts who are always willing to search.

There is an adoption price and an adoption application. There will be a home inspection prior to any adoption and a requirement of meeting everyone living in the household and a one visit or more after adoption. The adoption application is very detailed. To be honest, I’ve had people be offended by it. In my opinion, you cannot be too careful and I am only doing what is best for these helpless creatures.

So, if you are still interested, please feel free to contact us via the email button. If you would like to view the adoption application you may do that also by clicking on “Application”.
